Continuing into week three of National Preparedness Month, the UMass Lowell Office of Life Safety & Emergency Management would like to ensure that members of our campus community know how to access emergency notifications and why they’re so important.

Resources to make sure you have access to:

  • UMass Lowell Alert System (RAVE): As long as you have a UMass Lowell email address, you will receive emergency alerts from UML. These alerts can include information about natural disasters, threats to campus safety, severe weather, and more. To update/change any contact information or turn on text alerts, all you have to do is sign on to the My Alerts site.

If you are visiting campus for a shorter period of time, you can also receive alerts without a UML email address.
Text “UMLvisitoralerts” to 22-6787 for 7 days of alerts!
Text “UMLalerts” to 22-6787 for 180 days of alerts!
  • NotifyMe: In order to receive emergency alerts for incidents in the surrounding community of Lowell, sign up for NotifyMe. All you need to enter is your email address. Then, you can select what types of incidents you want to be notified of (such as Law, Health, Coronavirus, and more).
  • Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency (MEMA): Massachusetts shares crucial information about emergency incidents and weather events using many different resources. By simply looking at Mass.gov/alerts, you can gain access to weather advisories, power outage information, traffic alerts, and preparation/response/recovery plans for emergencies and disasters. MEMA also consistently updates its Twitter/X feed with the latest important information.
  • Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA): To be aware of emergencies on the national level, make sure you have the FEMA app to receive real-time updates and notifications. In the app, you can send notifications to your contacts about current situations, locate emergency shelters, and get preparedness strategies.

Having awareness of the alert systems is a great way to make sure you stay safe if there is an emergency that may affect our campus or the surrounding community.
