Work begins this week on improvements to the South Campus plaza, which will be fenced off for construction for the next three months.

The $1.8 million project includes improved walkways, lighting and landscaping, as well as a new stormwater drainage system, in the area between O’Leary Library, McGauvran Center and Weed Hall.

Work is being done in three phases to minimize disruption to campus life, building use and accessibility.

During phase one of the project (July 17 to Aug. 19), entrance to O’Leary will be limited to the accessible ramp closest to Wilder Street. McGauvran will have two of its three entrances available.

A new revolving door will be installed at the main vestibule entrance to O’Leary, which is scheduled to reopen during phase two of the project (Aug. 19 to Sept. 3).

During phase three (Sept. 3 to Oct. 22), a portion of the new plaza will be reopened in front of O’Leary, giving students a continuous, accessible pathway to and from the Moloney Performing Arts Center (formerly Durgin Hall), as well as Sheehy and Concordia halls.

The plaza is scheduled to reopen in full in late October.

The Amazon lockers have been temporarily removed from outside O’Leary’s main entrance and will be reinstalled this fall.
