I am incredibly excited to introduce Lynn Coutts as our new Director of UMass Lowell Athletics and the newest member of our university’s leadership team.

Lynn brings a wealth of experience both on and off the field. As an outstanding pitcher and coach on the softball field, she is a member of three sports Halls of Fame, including at the University of Maine, where she held five records at the time of her induction. She was also named the America East Coach of the Year in 2015.

Lynn is not only a proven administrator and leader but also understands the unique opportunities and challenges of being a student-athlete. She shares our vision of supporting our student-athletes as whole people — from practice to competition, in the classroom, and in seeking out career-connected experiences.

At the University of Denver, Lynn ensured a broad support system for 380 Division I student-athletes in all facets of their lives, from conditioning to NCAA compliance. She has shown a deep commitment to their mental health, including through her participation in the JED program, of which UMass Lowell is proud to be a part.

While Lynn's passion may be softball, she is a supporter and advocate of many sports. At Maine and Denver, she has supported many teams, including basketball, track & field, field hockey and soccer. She was the sport administrator for the University of Denver’s men’s hockey team that won the national championship this year, as well as in 2022, and for the women’s lacrosse team that went to the 2023 Final Four.

In addition to her coaching expertise, Lynn developed entrepreneurial expertise running her own business for nearly 14 years and fostering lasting connections within the community.

We are thrilled that Lynn is joining UMass Lowell. I am confident she will be a terrific leader for our dedicated and talented Athletics Department team, who will grow under her mentorship and support. I know she will be a great representative of our community of River Hawks, who are so passionate about our teams, our students, and our university.
