As part of its $2 million renovation, Durgin Hall on South Campus is being renamed the Moloney Performing Arts Center.

Facilities Management will begin changing the building’s signage in late June and expects to have all signage updated by late August, in time for the fall 2024 semester.

The new building code will be “MPAC.”

Home to the Department of Music, the building is being renamed for former Chancellor Jacquie Moloney ’75, ’92.

Renovation work, funded by a gift from Lowell philanthropist and longtime UML supporter Nancy Donahue, is nearly complete on the building’s concert hall. Updates include new, energy-efficient LED stage and house lighting, a state-of-the-art sound system and 898 new seats. Nine wheelchair-accessible spaces have also been created in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act.

The concert hall, which opened in 1976 in the piano-shaped building, has received fresh paint and new acoustic paneling along the front of the balconies.
