To provide the safest and most secure experience, UMass Lowell is switching our Multi-Factor Authentication provider from Duo Mobile to Microsoft Authenticator.
Open enrollment for switching to Authenticator will begin Wednesday, Feb. 14.

What does that mean for you?
Starting Feb. 14, you can use our MFA Enrollment Guide to help you through the process and seamlessly switch from Duo to Authenticator. Once you have completed enrollment you will be able to log in to all your UML accounts using the authenticator app.

This is an open enrollment period, so while we encourage you to enroll as soon as possible, groups will not be migrated from Duo until their scheduled date. Departments will be informed via email when their cut-over date will be. Please ensure that you are receiving emails from it-communications@uml.edu so as not to miss communications on this important matter.

  • If you have already enrolled in Microsoft Authenticator and have been using Authenticator to log in to your devices, you will see no changes on Feb. 14 to your service.
  • If you have already enrolled in Microsoft Authenticator, but you are still using Duo to verify your identity and login to services, starting on Feb. 14, you will only be using Authenticator for MFA to log in to your accounts.
  • If you have new employees, students, etc., that need to access their accounts, please direct them to the enrollment guide for Microsoft Authenticator, as Duo will no longer be administering new accounts.

As soon as you enroll in Microsoft Authenticator, it will become your default MFA service, and you may begin using it immediately.
