In the 1970s, Ted Dudziak, ’73, ’76 stood on top of a library rooftop setting up the transmitter for the college radio station at Lowell Technological Institute. At 18, he was chief engineer of WLTI (FM 91.7). He hardwired the station with other students to bring it up to 1,000 watts – giving Lowell Tech students more broadcasting power so they could be heard by a larger audience.
Opportunities to work on technical projects and get experience in your career path were one thing that was unique about Lowell Tech, and that continues at UMass Lowell, Dudziak says.
