CRP Suspended
As of November 2022, the Computer Replenishment Program has been suspended.
Due to fiscal pressures, Information Technology is no longer able to replace every system that would normally be eligible for replenishment.
If you are experiencing problems with your computer, please contact TechServices at 978-934-4357 for assistance. We will find a way to help.
Frequently Asked Questions
- Which computers are replaceable under the computer replenishment program?
-
Your computer is eligible for replacement under the program if it is five years old or older (according to the University's inventory) and is the primary computer you use to perform your primary job function. This may include instructional purposes, word processing, email, or managing financial or student records.
If you are a part-time employee then your department will purchase your primary computer.
If you are a full-time employee and looking to purchase a computer for research or travel purposes then your department will purchase this computer.
- How do I get my primary computer replaced?
-
Each year, the campus-wide inventory will be analyzed to determine the age of full-time benefited members' primary computers. Once it is determined that your computer is due for replenishment, you will be asked which model computer (from the hardware standards' list) you want. The standard desktop is fully covered by CRP. If you require a premium model, your department will need to provide funding for the delta cost.
- Can I choose the make and model of my replacement computer?
-
The Computer Replenishment Program uses UMass Lowell-approved hardware standards for all desktops and laptops on Windows and Apple platforms.
- How long does it take to replace my eligible computer?
-
After you have selected the computer, the Information Technology (IT) office will take care of the order. The computers will be imaged and set up for each individual employee. Once complete, a technician from IT will schedule an appointment with the faculty or staff member to install the computer and copy all data from the old computer to the new computer. The IT technician will then take the old computer so that it can be recycled properly. The turnaround time for set up and deployment is typically one week.
- I am new to the campus. How do I enroll in the computer replenish program?
-
You do not need to enroll in the Computer Replenishment Program. Your assigned computer is entered into the IT asset database upon deployment. If you are a full-time, benefited employee and are paid through the general operating budget of UMass Lowell, you will be contacted when your system is eligible for replacement. It is a 5-year cycle. For example, if you receive a new computer in Fiscal Year (FY) 2016, you will be eligible in FY 2021.
- I am a department head and have a new employee. How do I buy that person a computer?
-
The first computer for a new employee is not covered under the Computer Replenish Program (unless they are hired to replace an existing position that has been vacated.)
For department funded purchases, send an email to: Computer_Configurations@uml.edu and someone from IT will contact you to discuss your options and answer any questions you may have.
- I want to purchase computers for my research lab. How do I do this?
-
Research computers are not covered under the Computer Replenishment Program. For department funded purchases, send an email to: Computer_Configurations@uml.edu and someone from IT will contact you to discuss your options and answer any questions you may have.
- Who qualifies for replaceable equipment under the computer replenishment program?
-
You qualify to participate in the Computer Replenishment Program if you are a full-time, benefited employee and are paid through the general operating budget of UMass Lowell. Self-funded / Grant-funded departments are not eligible.
