- What is recorded?
-
Whatever is projected in the room is captured,:
- Classroom computer
- Document camera
- External computer/laptop
- An in-room video camera is mounted on the ceiling, aimed at the teaching podium, capturing video of the instructor.
- What happens after I submit a request?
-
Once you submit a request, you will receive a confirmation that the class has been scheduled for recording. In that confirmation, you will also get a link to a webpage that will contain links to all of the recorded classes. You can share individual classes by copying the individual class link and posting it on Blackboard or send it via email to your students. You can also share the webpage listing of all your class recordings to your students or post it in Blackboard.
- Are recordings made automatically in all classrooms?
-
We do not record a class until a request by the instructor has been made. See our Request Form.
- Who controls the recordings once made?
-
You retain control of the recordings made. Please see our policies for more information.

- What are my options if I need to delete a recording?
-
You have two options: contact us and tell us what recording(s) need to be removed or log onto the Echo360 server with your logon information. Your classes are listed and one of the options is to delete the recording. You will be given an opportunity to cancel this operation before final deletion.
- How do I edit a section of the captured class?
-
Editing is not difficult, and more importantly, does not erase the original recording. That is, you can always go back to the original. Currently your editing is limited to removing sections of the recording (beginning, end and any other part). You cannot add in new materials.
- How long are captured classes made available?
-
Recordings are normally made available for a one-year period. After one year, materials are moved into an archival area. These materials are still available, but handled on a case-by-case basis. After two years, recordings are moved into a backup area. Materials are deleted after a period of two years UNLESS requested that they be retained.
- Are there copyright restrictions when some copyrighted material is used?
-
Because access to the recorded classes is restricted to UML students, there is a greater latitude used when integrating copyrighted materials than if used in an class that is available via open-access. Faculty must use copyrighted materials judiciously.
- I am not sure that lecture capture is right for my class or my teaching style. Do I need to sign up for an entire semester?
-
You don’t need to commit to an entire semester for recording. Please contact us if you would like to record a class or several to test our system.
- Do you offer any training or additional help concerning lecture capture?
-
One-on-one training is always available, just contact us. We also hold training classes several times a year, usually in the Fall and during January. We also offer video tutorials and handouts of all the basic information.
