The Honors College is partnering with greater Lowell non-profit leaders to start the Honors College City-ship Program. This program will match honors students with mentors who are non-profit leaders for a year-long partnership in which the student will provide project support to forward the mission of the non-profit. The non-profit leader will act as a mentor for the student as well as the Senior Assistant Director of Community Outreach, Development and Engagement in the Honors College. In addition to these partnerships, the students and their mentors will become part of a larger community of students and mentors for a series of events that will take place throughout the academic year.
City-ships will provide local non-profit leaders with highly qualified students and help provide training for the students based on the needs of the non-profits. City-ships provide students with hands-on experience outside of the classroom. These paid and non-credit opportunities allow students to learn through experience and help to connect what they learned in the classroom to real-world situations.
The Honors College has partnerships with local nonprofits and organizations to provide opportunities for career-connected experiences for honors students. This opportunity allows students to gain a unique learning experience unlike any they will receive in a classroom as well as to work one-on-one with community leaders from the Greater Lowell region.
