Research Interests

Reliability and validity of tests and measurements used in orthopedic physical therapy, clinical reasoning and expert practice, physical therapy intervention for the oncology patient, intervention strategies for musculoskeletal injuries, prevention of musculoskeletal injuries.

Biosketch

Connie J. Seymour, PT, Ph.D., OCS was named Associate Professor Emerita in 2020 after serving as faculty at the University of Massachusetts Lowell for 28 years. Seymour joined the Department of Physical Therapy (now Physical Therapy and Kinesiology) in 1992 after earning her B.S. in Exercise Science, M.S. in Exercise Science, M.P.T. in Physical Therapy, and Ph.D. in Exercise Science degrees, as well as after serving in the U.S. Army.

Seymour is licensed physical therapist in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and board-certified Orthopedic Clinical Specialist (OCS). During her over 36 years of clinical practice, Seymour acquired numerous certifications, including: LSVT BIG, Tactical Strength and Conditioning – Facilitator (TSAC-F), and Neurodevelopmental Treatment (NDT) certification in adult hemiplegia. Dr. Seymour has experience practicing in a hospital-based inpatient and outpatient clinics, treating patients with both musculoskeletal and neurological conditions.

As faculty, Seymour authored numerous peer-reviewed publications, and taught in the orthopedic sequence of the graduate Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) program, delivering much of the spine, clinical reasoning, and professional practice issues content. Dr. Seymour remains active in the Academy of Orthopedic Physical Therapy and the Academy of Neurologic Physical Therapy within the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA), and actively encourages participation of physical therapy students within the profession and their surrounding communities as well.
