Research Interests
McEnany’s interests include sleep and its relationship to psychiatric illness. He has a strong interest in psychobiology and psychopharmacology and has been teaching at both the undergraduate and graduate levels in these areas for many years. He maintains a small private practice in Boston. His current research is exploring the impact of gabapentin on sleep and hot flash regulation in midlife women.
McEnany is the author/co-author of over 60 publications. He serves on the editorial boards for The Journal of the American Psychiatric Nurses Association and is an associate editor for Issues in Mental Health Nursing.
Education
McEnany completed his doctoral studies in nursing at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF). After completing his doctorate, he was a post-doctoral fellow of the Agency for Health Care Quality & Research at UCSF for two years where he continued his work on sleep and its relationship to women diagnosed with major depression.
His master’s degree, also from UCSF is in nursing with a focus on psychiatric and mental health nursing, and he is currently certified as a clinical nurse specialist in psychiatric and mental health nursing. He received his BSN from the University of San Francisco, and his initial education was at the Massachusetts General Hospital School of Nursing in Boston.
