Students from African nations who meet the qualifications for admittance into a Master’s degree program will be awarded up to $20,000 in Graduate Scholarship funding.
Scholarship funds of $5,000 will be awarded over four consecutive semesters to students who maintain good academic standing in their program. The award is available for up to five semesters (up to $25,000 total) to students pursuing a Master of Public Health degree.
Students must apply by one of the priority deadlines (see below) for either the Fall 2025 start term, or Spring 2026, and pursue studies full-time on campus. These scholarships were created to help students advance their knowledge and careers, and to augment the rich diversity of UMass Lowell’s student population.

Scholarship Requirements
Academic Criteria: To receive the scholarship, you must meet the academic standards required for acceptance into your program of interest. If admitted, you will be awarded the $20,000 scholarship automatically. No additional application materials need to be submitted.Program of Study: You must be admitted into a Master’s degree program.
Location:You must pursue your degree full-time by taking classes on campus at UMass Lowell or at minimum, two on-campus and one online course each semester.
Tuition Residency: Applicants must be classified as international tuition residency per university and state guidelines. You must successfully pursue your degree program in F-1 student status sponsored by UMass Lowell. You will be required to take a full-time course load on campus or, at minimum, two on-campus and one online course each semester, and maintain your valid F-1 status.
Nationality: You must have an international residency status with citizenship in one of the African nations.
Priority Application Deadlines: Applicants from African nations who plan to start their program in the Fall are strongly encouraged to apply by January 15 of that year. Applicants who complete their application prior to January 15 and receive admission in their master’s program will be awarded a Graduate Scholarship for Scholars from African Nations.
Applicants applying after January 15 and before February 15 priority deadline will also be considered if there are scholarships still available to be awarded.
Enrollment Confirmation: Students from African nations who are admitted and awarded a scholarship must submit their enrollment deposit within 21 days. If the deposit has not been submitted, the scholarship may be revoked.
