The UMass Lowell Model United Nations is a conference prepared for high schools in Eastern Massachusetts and Southern New Hampshire. This dynamic three-day conference offers students the opportunity to debate critical issues facing the global community, as well as develop public speaking, researching and writing skills. Held at the UMass Lowell Inn and Conference Center in downtown Lowell, students will enjoy an extraordinary learning experience.
Model UN participants are expected to learn about their respective nations' involvement in selected issues, develop and communicate their countries' positions on these issues, test their negotiation skills and further the position of their states.
By joining this simulation, participants learn many skills that will serve them in their studies and future professional careers. They teach themselves the clashing views on current international issues, learn to compose diplomatic papers and practice negotiation skills with their counterparts. They also familiarize themselves with the extensive resources and databases available on the internet. They will engage themselves with a direct, interactive and experimental educational experience.
