Biosketch
Wael Kamal is the assistant dean of the College of Fine Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences at UMass Lowell. In his role, he provides strategic leadership across several key areas, including curriculum management, adjunct faculty utilization, contract management, student retention and the academic success of undergraduate students. He also contributes to the administration of interdisciplinary undergraduate programs. Kamal is the point contact for the college’s study abroad experiences and international collaborations.
Before becoming assistant dean, Kamal was the founding director of the Digital Media Program at UMass Lowell. His academic career also includes his position as an associate teaching professor in the Art and Design Department, where he has taught film and video production since 2012.
In addition to his academic roles, Kamal is an accomplished practitioner in the fields of commercial video, TV production, and broadcasting, specializing as a director of photography and director of lighting. His expertise extends to photography, where he has earned numerous awards and certificates of appreciation from the Egyptian Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts Sector. His work has been exhibited internationally in countries such as Japan, Malta, Italy, Spain, the UAE, Poland and Egypt.
