“VieVest is a creative design that will protect athletes during weight lifting workouts”.
VieVest noticed a problem when working out. Pain, bruising, and abrasion is caused by common barbell movements frequent to CrossFit and Olympic lifting workouts. Movements such as hang/power cleans, push jerks, and back squats require the use of a metal barbell that is often slammed or pushed against the collar bone and cervical spine. These movements have the ability to cause redness, bruises, cuts, and even stress fractures that hinder athletes from doing these movements.
Team leader Alexander Frawley studying business, came up with a novel solution to develop a vest-like product that offers padding to the collarbone and cervical spinal areas. The padding absorbs the force of the barbell and offers a viable solution to the direct bone-to-metal contact which is currently known as the industry standard. Alexander is currently speaking with manufacturers about the development of the VieVest, and, with the $2,000 Honorable Mention prize awarded to him at the 2021 DifferenceMaker Idea challenge, he plans to further develop and manufacture the prototype.
