Excessive wait times within the food industry are a source of frustration for customers and serve as a costly inefficiency for restaurant owners. ZHUUM's technology helps eliminate these frustrations through its low cost, fast and easy-to-use mobile application. This application is aimed at changing the way people order and pay for meals at restaurants. ZHUUM's solution helps save time for both restaurant owners and customers, allowing for more efficiencies and time saved. Owners are able to seat more people quickly, which drives revenue and keeps customers happy.
ZHUUM consists of a multidisciplinary team including Chuen Hong Lau '14 and Darin Eidens '15, both master students in Innovation and Technological Entrepreneurship, Dan Coughlin '15, master student in Business Administration and Wai Yuen Tang '12 in Electrical Engineering.
“Do you dislike waiting for things, especially food at your favorite restaurant?” Darin Eidens asked to a large audience in the Mark and Elisia Saab Emerging Technologies and Innovation Center in the opening of his rocket pitch for the 2014 Idea Challenge. The judges seemed to agree that this was a problem that needed a solution. The judges awarded ZHUUM second place in the “First to Market” category. This came with a $2,000 award to move their project forward. Since pitching in April 2014 the team began development and has made significant progress.
