Biosketch

As CEO of Community Teamwork, Karen Frederick has made an enduring impact on the lives of thousands of residents in the 71 cities and towns in Middlesex and Essex Counties that the agency serves. Frederick joined the Lowell-based agency in 1978 and held a number of roles before assuming the job of CEO in 2003. Under her stewardship, Community Teamwork has grown to a $180 million organization with 600 employees serving more than 58,000 people annually.  
Throughout her career, Frederick has shared her vision, commitment and energy with numerous community-based organizations. She served as president of the Massachusetts Association of Early Education and Care, the Massachusetts Association of Community Action Agencies, the Regional Housing Association of MA and of the Department of Social Services Citizens’ Advisory Board.
She was a founding member of the Greater Lowell Homeless Task Force and is on the boards of Common Ground Development Corp., the Greater Lowell Community Foundation, The Bridge Club and the MA Citizens’ Housing & Planning Association.  She is a corporator of Lowell General Hospital and a former member and chair of the Dracut School Committee.
Frederick earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Merrimack College and a master of education degree in child and family development from Tufts University.
