Abigail Drezek, a native of Cumberland, Rhode Island, earned a B.S. in exercise physiology in 2021 and continued her academic journey as a River Hawk. This year she is receiving a doctorate in physical therapy.
Throughout her tenure at UMass Lowell, Drezek actively contributed to the community, including as a valuable member of the Division I women’s soccer team for five years. Her commitment to excellence extended beyond the field, as evidenced by her leadership roles as the Student Athletic Advisory Council (SAAC) president and campus captain. In these roles, she advocated for improved dialogue and resources in such areas as diversity and inclusion, mental health and food insecurity.
Drezek’s dedication to service was recognized with the Exercise Science Leadership Award and the prestigious Chancellor's Medal for Student Service. Her commitment to service extends beyond campus; she is particularly proud of her work with Best Buddies, where she fostered meaningful connections and promoted inclusivity.
Drezek, who was awarded the Shalin Liu Fellowship for her efforts to improve interprofessional education in the Zuckerberg College of Health Sciences, used her clinical rotations to foster her goal to expand athletics opportunities in adaptive populations.
In appreciation of Drezek speaking at Commencement, Chancellor Julie Chen will donate $500 in her honor to SAAC to continue to provide resources on campus for mental health, food insecurity, DEI and bridging the gap between athletes and all their peers on campus.
