BLA Concentration in Medieval and Renaissance Studies

The BLA concentration in Medieval and Renaissance Studies explores European society and its interactions with world cultures between the 5th – 17th centuries. The program examines how aspects of the Middle Ages and Renaissance created, and persist into, the modern day. Students will learn to perform historically grounded analysis of art, music, literature, theatre, and philosophy, as well as political and social systems, including genders, race, social class, and religions. They will gain skills in careful research, critical analysis, effective writing, and communication.

Required Courses

  • A minimum of 6 courses in Medieval and Renaissance Studies
  • 3 Medieval and Renaissance Studies courses at the 3000-4000 level
  • 3 Medieval and Renaissance Studies courses at any level
