BLA Concentration in Environment & Society
The BLA Concentration in Environment & Society is an interdisciplinary concentration that provides students with the analytical and communication skills, as well as the scientific foundation needed to work in areas such as environmental planning, environmental policy, environmental philosophy, sustainable development, environmental education or social theory and the environment. Topics explored include climate change, sustainability, resource rights, law and legislation, and the role of environmental issues in domestic and international conflicts.
Students are encouraged to participate in collaborative environmental research and service projects with government agencies, non-profit organizations, local businesses and other environmental actors such as state and national park systems.
Required Courses
A minimum of 6 courses in Environment and Society.
- Foundations Course: POLI.1750 Introduction to Environmental Politics
- 3 Environment & Society courses at the 3000-4000 level
- 2 Environment & Society courses at any level
Note: In addition to the three semesters of Science & STEM required for the Core Curriculum, students are strongly encouraged to take a fourth science course from the following list:
- ATMO.1410 Weather and Climate
- BIOL.3150 Principles of Ecology (with permission from instructor)
- BIOL.3170L Principles of Ecology Laboratory
