Applied Music Requirements
- Music Studies students must complete eight semesters of Applied Music (MUAP) on their principal instrument.
- Music Performance students must complete eight semesters of Performance Applied courses and perform a public senior recital.
- Music Business and Sound Recording Technology students must complete six semesters of Applied Music (MUAP) on their principal instrument.
- Composition for New Media students must complete eight semesters of Applied Composition.
- Four semesters of vocal/instrumental study
- Four semesters of compositional study
Panel Evaluations
Panel evaluations are periodic departmental exams for Applied Lessons that are required in specified semesters of study. Panel Evaluations take place during the final exam period.
Every Panel Evaluation will be worth a significant portion of a student's final grade for the semester. Additionally, students may be required to retake a level of Applied Music in the event that they are unable to demonstrate sufficient competence during Panel Evaluations.
Panel Evaluations will be graded by one or more full-time faculty members.
- Music Business and Sound Recording Technology: students take Panel Evaluations when enrolled in Applied 1, 2, 4 and 6.
- Music Studies: students take Panel Evaluations when enrolled in Applied 1, 2, 4, 6 and 8.
- Music Performance: students must take Panel Evaluations every semester except for the final semester of lessons, which culminates in a Senior Recital.
- Composition for New Media students take Panel Evaluations when enrolled in three specified semesters of voice/instrumental study.
