Students in the Doctor of Philosophy in Plastics Engineering will gain:
- Proficiency in the core methodological area or areas defined by the degree program. The extent to which this proficiency is satisfied is measured by the satisfactory classroom performance in the core courses.
- Mastery of advanced material in core methodological areas to enable the development of new theoretical and methodological research. This outcome is measured in the PhD Qualifying exam in combination with the defense of the Dissertation proposal.
- The ability to effectively and professionally communicate concepts and information in written and oral forms. This outcome is measured by the successful Dissertation proposal and Dissertation defense, which both have written and oral components.
- The ability to assimilate foundational material, describe important research contributions, and advance the state-of-the-art in the field. This outcome is demonstrated by the successful Dissertation defense and by the publication of conference papers and peer-reviewed journal articles.
