Description
Modern applications of the topics covered in Chemistry I, (CHEM.1210). Topics reviewed include atomic history and structures, bonding theory, chemical reactions and calculations, the behavior of gases, The course also introduces analytical instrumentation used to explore these topics including mass spectrometry, optical spectroscopy, nuclear magnetic resonance, and others molecular analyses demonstrated at the Core Research Facilities. Students engage in classroom group activities as well as large personal projects adapted to explorations in their own fields of major concentration. Application of chemistry knowledge, communication, reading, and writing are core course goals. Open to students enrolled in the Honors Program, and may be taken instead of CHEM.1210. May be taken by chemistry majors with solid backgrounds with permission.
