Description
A calculus-based engineering course providing treatment of the fundamental modes of heat transfer. Topics include: steady-state and transient heat conduction in solids; forced and natural convection; the thermal boundary layer; dimensionless number such as Prandtl, Biot, Nusselt, Rayleigh, and Grashof numbers; Chilton-Colburn analogy; empirical engineering convection relations; thermal radiation heat exchange involving black and non-black body surfaces; extended surfaces (fins); heat exchangers.
Prerequisites
MECH.3810 Fluid Mechanics with a C- or better, or Spring 2020 grade of "P", and ME Majors only.
