Purpose

The University of Massachusetts Lowell chapter of Alpha Lambda Delta recognizes and honors academic excellence during a student’s first year of college. Each spring semester, undergraduate students in their first year who have satisfied the induction criteria will be invited to become a member.

The chapter strives to encourage and support high academic achievement amongst all students at the University of Massachusetts Lowell, while contributing to and supporting a campus culture of civic responsibility.

The university chapter was founded in 1993 and remained active through 2013. The chapter was re-established in 2020 and is looking forward to welcoming its next class of members in the spring of 2021.

Induction Criteria

Induction is open to all undergraduate students who began as first-time freshmen at University of Massachusetts Lowell. Induction is dependent on the academic performance during the first semester for which a student is enrolled at the university. Criteria includes:

  • Successful completion of 12 credits or more of graded coursework
  • Achieved term GPA of 3.500 or greater. Note: This refers to GPA prior to any grade conversion to P/NC

Benefits

Qualified University of Massachusetts Lowell students are eligible for lifetime membership in the national honor society, Alpha Lambda Delta. If you are eligible, you will be sent an invitation to join the chapter at the start of spring semester.

The national chapter offers:

  • Opportunity to apply to national scholarships via annual essay competition

Membership Dues

There is a one-time lifetime membership due of $30. Your dues is paid directly to the national chapter of Alpha Lambda Delta. Instructions for submitting payment will be included in the official invitation eligible students receive. Your dues needs to be paid in full by the deadline given to you in order to be included in our annual initiation ceremony; that deadline is 10 days prior to the initiation ceremony.

Initiation Ceremony

The annual initiation ceremony for the University of Massachusetts Lowell chapter of Alpha Lambda Delta is held during the first week of March. The date and time for the initiation ceremony will be identified on the official invitation eligible students receive. As this date and time will change from year to year, you may contact the chapter advisor for more information.
