Biosketch

Ruairi O’Mahony is the executive director of the Rist Institute for Sustainability and Energy at UMass Lowell. A native of Cork City, Ireland, Ruairi has been working in the planning and sustainability field for more than 10 years. With particular expertise in urban sustainability issues, Ruairi leads a talented team of professional and student employees working to advance sustainability at the university and in the wider community.

Prior to arriving at UMass Lowell, Ruairi worked at the Central New Hampshire Planning Commission overseeing the region’s core transportation planning efforts. Before moving to the States in 2009, he worked for the Strategic Projects Team in Dublin City Council’s Department of Planning and Economic Development.

Ruairi started at UMass Lowell in the Transportation and Parking Department before moving to establish the Office of Sustainability in 2015. He has overseen an impressive transformation at the university with sustainability now an integral part of the campus experience at UMass Lowell.
