  • What is your favorite thing about UMass Lowell (UML)? My favorite thing about UML is the different opportunities provided by the school for us. Some of the different opportunities that have helped given me an amazing uml experience are working at Lydon, being a part of the honors college, being an immersive scholars student, being a part of RHSA, becoming an orientation leader, and becoming a tour guide.
  • What are your future goals? My future goals are to get my master’s in computer engineering and graduate with my undergrad in the honors program. After that I want to work with hardware but not entirely sure how yet.
  • What has having been involved with the RHSA meant to you? RHSA has been an amazing experience which has helped me meet different groups of people, while also providing an awesome support system. This has made is so RHSA to me means helping your peers while they help you, creating bonds with people of all different backgrounds but at least one single thing in common, being a first-generation college student.
  • Looking back, what advice would you give to yourself in your first year of college? The advice I would give myself when restarting my freshman year is to take advantage of the office hours and tutoring available through the school because the extra help is very useful.
  • What advice would you give fellow students? The advice I would give to fellow students is to take advantage of the different programs offered to you and the advantages they provide to you.
  • Why did you choose to attend UMass Lowell? I chose UML because of the different programs they provided to me, such as immersive scholars, RSHA and the honors college. It was important to me to be active on campus and with so many different opportunities here I knew it was right for me.
  • What does it mean to you to be a first-generation college student? To me being a first-generation college student is to persevere through the different challenges most colleges students don’t even realize can be an issue because they have a support system of people that have gone through college and the problems it entails already.
  • What inspires you to want to help first-generation students in the RHSA? What inspires me to help other first generation college students is I don’t want them to struggle adjusting to college, especially when they have less resources to talk to, such as family, compared to most students. Having a good support systems makes it so much easier to adjust to college and I want to be there for students when they need it.
