Lynn Coutts was named Director of Athletics in July 2024, bringing more than two decades of experience as a collegiate coach and administrator to UMass Lowell.

Coutts previously served as Associate Vice Chancellor, Deputy Director of Athletics and Senior Woman Administrator at the University of Denver. There she was the sport administrator for women's volleyball, women's basketball and women's lacrosse, in addition to the men's hockey team that won national championships in 2022 and 2024.

Before moving to Denver, Coutts was head softball coach at her alma mater, the University of Maine, from 2011-15, where she coached many scholar-athletes and all-conference players. After becoming an administrator and moving into an assistant coach’s role at Maine, she helped the Black Bears win the America East Conference Championship in 2016.

As a student-athlete on the Maine softball team, Coutts was a four-year starter, a two-time captain and a Northeast All-American pitcher.

In addition to coaching expertise, Coutts ran a sports training business with her husband for nearly 14 years, fostering long-lasting connections within the Northeast.

She has also been a member of the National Association of Directors of Collegiate Athletics’s Senior Administrators Mentoring Institute Workshop, as well as Women Leaders in College Sports.
