The University of Massachusetts Lowell (UML) has several entities responsible for assuring high standards of humane animal care and use for all research that is funded through UML and/or that involves animals that are housed at UML. UML’s Animal Care and Use program is registered with the USDA under the Animal Welfare Act and Regulations, and maintains a Letter of Assurance with the NIH Office of Laboratory Animal Welfare under the Health Research Extension Act of 1985 and the Public Health Service Policy on Humane Care and Use of Laboratory Animals.
The Animal Care Program oversees animal activity at The University of Massachusetts and serves as the administrative and regulatory support for the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC).
