UMass Lowell to Acquire $24 Million Facility
UMass Lowell is on its way to owning the Tsongas Arena. On Friday, Oct.
30 prior to the Hockey East match up between the eighth-ranked UMass
Lowell River Hawks and the fourth-ranked Boston University Terriers,
plans for the University to acquire the arena were announced at a pre-game press conference and the purchase-and-sale agreement was signed during an on-ice ceremony
with Chancellor Marty Meehan, Lowell City Manager Bernie Lynch, state
Sen. Steven Panagiotakos, UMass President Jack Wilson, Lowell’s
legislative delegation and UMass Lowell students.
