General Summary (Purpose) of Position
The Technology Transfer Staff Assistant supports the Commercial Venture and Intellectual Property (CVIP) Office in its role in technology commercialization and economic development; providing administrative support and recordkeeping for the various programs.

Examples of Duties:
1. Provides administrative support to the Commercial Venture and Intellectual Property Office (CVIP) by:
• Greeting and assisting visitors.
• Answering the phone and responding to or referring inquiries to the appropriate person.
• Scheduling patent committee meetings and distributing agendas and meeting minutes.
• Responding to direct inquiries, preparing correspondence, and answering routine questions with University and patent legal counsels.
• Establishing and maintaining files and records.

2. Monitor financial activities for CVIP by:
• Maintaining database records for invention disclosures, patents, licenses and royalty distribution.
• Tracking the CVIP operating budget.
• Processing purchase order requisitions.
• Generating invoices for licensee payments.

3. Promote the University’s commitment to customer service by:
• Building effective partnerships with co-workers throughout the University by freely sharing appropriate information and providing assistance when needed.
• Ensuring optimum service to all internal and external partners in response to all requests for service and information.
• Maintaining an environment that is welcoming to persons of all backgrounds, nationalities, and roles.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
• Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience preferred
• 3 to 5 years administrative experience in an office environment, administering budgets; legal office patent law desirable.
• Demonstrated experience working with contracts and interpreting contract language.
• Demonstrated experience with word processing, spreadsheets, and database software.  (Microsoft Office software preferred.)
• Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
• Ability to work independently
• Ability to handle confidential materials and information.
• Ability to exercise judgment and discretion in applying and interpreting departmental policies and procedures.
