General Summary (Purpose) of Position
Serve as a licensing associate within the CVIP/CVD Program with a major focus to evaluate university based IP with respect to new venture opportunity; providing support for CVD start-up opportunities with business plans, business strategies, market knowledge, sales/marketing and finance. Assist and provide direct assistance as incubating companies mature through management of support programs and projects.
Examples of Duties:
1. Promote the University’s goal of engaging and encouraging the development of multidisciplinary, high tech business by:
• Assisting in the creation of new ventures based upon UML’s initiative thrust into bio, green, sustainable and renewable energy technologies in support of technology commercialization.
• Managing CVD tenants and affiliates.
• Raising support for commercial development research and provide gap funding.
• Assisting the commercial development efforts of the CVIP office.
• Directing a tenant recruitment and screening program.
• Developing a broad spectrum of potential support for CVD companies including access to capital, equipment, intellectual and business resources.
• Prepare and administer annual budget for approval.
• Working with faculty and researchers to commercialize inventions.
• Evaluating and valuating commercial potential of an invention, market potential and licensing strategy.
• Evaluating commercial/start up business opportunity of an invention or potential incubator client.
• Developing entrepreneurial and VC pool for managing and supporting CVD start ups and accelerator program.
2. Promote the University’s commitment to customer service by:
• Developing a broad spectrum of potential support for CVD companies including access to capital, equipment, intellectual and business resources.
• Developing and maintaining a positive program with outside fund entities.
• Building effective partnerships with co-workers throughout the University by freely sharing appropriate information and providing assistance when needed.
• Ensuring optimum service to all internal and external partners in response to all requests for service and information.
• Maintaining an environment that is welcoming to persons of all backgrounds, nationalities, and roles.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
• Advanced degree (Ph.D. preferred) in engineering, preferential chemical/bio or electrical.
• MBA highly desirable.
• Minimum three years experience in licensing, negotiations, creative problem solving and teaching.
• Demonstrated experience in business plan preparation and review.
• Strong sales and marketing skills.
• Demonstrated writing and interpersonal communications skills
• Demonstrated experience in public relations and media relations.
• Demonstrated understanding of budgets and cash flow.
• Skill in coaching and mentoring entrepreneurs.
• Ability to manage a significant case load and work in a complex and evolving environment.
