General Summary (Purpose) of Position
The Boathouse Director/Head Coach of Women’s Crew has responsibility for all aspects of management of the Bellegarde Boathouse, oversees scheduling of the Boathouse; develops a business; and works with all users to insure safe and proper use of the facility.  Will also conduct, organize and supervise all aspects of the women’s intercollegiate crew program within parameters designated by the University, applicable conferences and the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). 

Examples of Duties:
1. Manage all activities at the Bellegarde Boathouse by:.
• Developing and implementing a business plan that generates sufficient revenues to maintain and operate the Boathouse in a professional manner.
• Increasing revenue-generating events and activities.
• Establishing a fee structure for Boathouse users, facility memberships, summer programming, special events, and other revenue-generating activities.
• Developing and overseeing Boathouse schedule addressing the needs of the primary Boathouse users and ensuring a cooperative environment.
• Developing a successful maintenance plan working closely with University facility staff.

2. Oversee all aspects of the women’s intercollegiate crew program by:
• Organizing, recruitment/evaluation of student-athletes
• Conducting and supervising practices and player conditioning.
• Scouting of future opponents.
• Preparing for and implementing game strategies.
• Participating in conference and NCAA meetings.
• Providing appropriate leadership, direction and supervision relevant to the academic progress and personal development of student-athletes within women’s crew program.
• Adhering to all conference and NCAA rules/requirements relevant to the conduct of the intercollegiate crew program.
• Preparing information relevant to budgeting, equipment needs, and program concerns.
• Assigning responsibilities to assistant coaches.
• Supervising all aspects of work performance of assistant coaches.
• Creating a positive and productive environment for the student-athletes.

3. Participate in promotional and public relations to advance athletic programs by:
• Providing assistance with departmental fund-raising.
• Representing the Department of Athletics at designated University, departmental and community functions.
• Serving in public relations capacities as needed.
• Encouraging staff and student-athletes to participate in community outreach activities.

4. Promote the University’s commitment to customer service by:
• Building effective partnerships with co-workers throughout the University by freely sharing appropriate information and providing assistance when needed.
• Ensuring optimum service to all internal and external partners in response to all requests for service and information.
• Maintaining an environment that is welcoming to persons of all backgrounds, nationalities, and roles.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
• Bachelor's degree required; Master’s preferred.
• 3-5 years successful experience as a coach in the sport of crew, preferably at the college/university level.
• Proven ability to work successfully with student-athletes and displays a commitment to the student-athlete concept.
• Knowledge and understanding of, and an appreciation for, NCAA rules and regulations.
• Ability to work compatibly and cooperatively with the staff and personnel in the department of intercollegiate athletics and other university units
• Demonstrated communication skills, including interpersonal and public relations skills.
• Ability to work evenings and weekends as necessary.

Supervision Received:  Reports directly to the Director of Athletics.
