UMass Lowell Presents Lincoln/Douglas Debates Play:
“The Rivalry”
On Thursday, October 29, UMass Lowell will proudly present Norman Corwin’s play, “The Rivalry” at the Inn and Conference Center in downtown Lowell. Based on the watershed debates of 1858 between Abraham Lincoln and Stephen Douglas, “The Rivalry” has been touring to critical acclaim, giving dramatic life to these historic moments and extending our continuing conversation about the American experience and democracy. Here’s what the critics have to say about “The Rivalry”:
“A powerful reminder that politics matter.” --NY Post
“Compelling theatre. Fine performances.” --The New York Times
“An important piece of history.” --The Boston Globe
Don’t miss the rare opportunity to experience this uniquely dramatic and historically significant performance. This limited engagement, which coincides with the bicentennial of Lincoln’s birth, will have performances at 10:30 a.m. and 7 p.m. Admission is free.

Each semester the Center publishes "Arts & Ideas" (pdf), a new publication highlighting a variety of events--cultural activities, major lectures and talks, and special events--taking place at UMass Lowell and in the community. Events are updated on our Calendar of Events page.
The Center also offers the STARTS (Students and Teacher Arts) Series, a variety of high quality performing arts experiences for students during the school day given by professional, nationally and internationally known performing arts groups.
