To ensure a smooth application process, international students are advised to start the process no less than twelve months in advance of the expected date of enrollment.

Application Deadlines

What’s in a Completed Application Package?

Your completed application package shall include:

    1. For students who will have completed less than 24 college-level credits by the time of matriculation at UMass Lowell, a score from the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) of the College Entrance Examination Board (CEEB) or a score from the American College Test (ACT) will be required. The CEEB code number for UMass Lowell is 3911.

  1. An Official Secondary School and/or College Record - All transcripts from international institutions must be evaluated at the Center for Educational Documentation (P.O. Box 199, Boston, MA 02117, tel.: 617-338-7171, fax: 617-338-7101) before the University advisors review them for transfer credits.  If the applicant has not completed high school, a copy of the G.E.D. and school transcripts of all high school course work attempted should be forwarded.

    1. Course Description: In order for appropriate transfer of credits to take place, course descriptions are required for all undergraduate coursework.  Once the course descriptions are received, these will be forwarded to the appropriate academic department for evaluation.  Please note that approval of transfer credits is determined by each individual department, and there are no guarantees that transfer credits will be granted.

  2. Declaration of Finances - If accepted to a degree program, applicants must file a completed Declaration of Finance Form in order for us to complete the process to issue an I-20.

    1. If you have official proof of finances (from your own or your sponsor's financial institution), you can submit it along with the $150 International Student fee and a brief letter accepting your acceptance now to expedite your I-20. Once these items are received and processed, we will forward your I-20 to you.

    2. If you have a relative or friend in the area, you may want to arrange for them to act as your designee in these matters. Please send us a signed authorization letter via fax at 978-934-3022.

    3. NOTE: The University requires a notarized letter of support from your sponsor and a proof of financial solvency from the sponsor's bank, lawyer or financial manager. These documents are also accepted as adequate and proper financial proof by the U.S. embassies and consulates.

  3. Test Score Report of Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) - All international applicants are required to submit results of the TOEFL exam except citizens of Australia, Canada (except Quebec), United Kingdom, Ireland, New Zealand, Guyana and English Speaking countries of Africa and West Indies.  Please see information about the TOEFL for more information.
