The UMass Lowell Police Department joined law enforcement units from around the state recently as part of a “cruiser convoy” to benefit Special Olympics  Massachusetts.

Beginning at points north, south and west of Boston, some 150 law enforcement vehicles converged on the Harvard University athletic fields, site of the Special Olympics Massachusetts’ Summer Games. The participating units had signed on to raise awareness and funds for the athletes and to enhance the games by coming out to support them.

“We’re grateful for the spirit and support from law enforcement agencies of Massachusetts,” said Bob Johnson, president and CEO of Special Olympics Massachusetts. “They are truly heroes for Special Olympics athletes.”

The UMass Lowell department was the only one in the UMass system taking part in the event.
