Snow and ice are a natural part of New England weather, and the UMass Lowell Grounds team works to ensure safe access to all university facilities in the winter months.

The team monitors weather conditions and ensures equipment and personnel are on hand to respond to winter storms and other extreme conditions. When foul weather strikes, the team is responsible for plowing, removing snow and treating icy conditions for approximately 7.2 miles of walkways and sidewalks and 2.6 million square feet of parking lots. The team also works to ensure that campus roads remain passable for emergency vehicles during the winter.

How You Can Help Keep UMass Lowell Safe

Keeping the UMass Lowell community safe requires everyone’s cooperation. We ask that all students, faculty and staff keep these safety steps in mind:

  • Do not allow unauthorized persons to gain access to university facilities
  • Do not prop doors open
  • Do not provide your keys to others
  • Use common sense

To report concerns about snow or ice, please contact the Facilities Service Center at 978-934-2601 or complete the online Service Request.
