Nancy L. Donahue is an active philanthropist and community volunteer in the Merrimack Valley.
Donahue established the Nancy L. Donahue Endowed Professorship in the Arts to strengthen music, arts and theater programs at UMass Lowell by creating better connections with local arts organizations, nurturing artistic passion and talent in students and taking advantage of vast artistic resources within the City of Lowell. She has also generously supported the Charles Dickens Memorial Scholarships, Mary Jo Leahey Summer Band Camp Scholarships, the Leo King Scholarships Fund and the UMass Lowell Center for the Arts among other programs.
Donahue has served on the Commencement Host Committee and the Chancellor's External Advisory Board at UMass Lowell. Actively engaged in the community, she has served as executive director of the University of Lowell Foundation. She was a co-founder of the Merrimack Repertory Theatre where she has served on the Board since its founding. She is a trustee of Whistler House Museum of Art, a trustee of Ayer Home Trust; and a trustee of the New England Quilt Museum which she helped establish in Lowell. Donahue has also served on the Board of the American Textile History Museum for many years ,as well as the United Way where she was the first woman to chair the board. She has also served for many years as a Trustee of Lasell College, the Adolescent Consultative Services and the Canalwater Cleaners.
Donahue has been honored for her dedication to the community as well as her philanthropy. She was the National Philanthropy Day Honoree in 2005, as well as the Girls Incorporated Celebration of Today’s Women Honoree in 1999.
She resides in Lowell with her husband, Richard K. Donahue.
