The New England Consortium Has Trained More Than 30,000 People Since 1988

WHAT: From advising those tasked with cleaning up oil spills in the Gulf of Mexico to training workers who respond to hazardous material emergencies, the New England Consortium has worked with more than 30,000 people and 2,000 employers across the region since it was founded 25 years ago. 

TNEC will mark that anniversary with a program that looks at policies and protections for the future of worker health and safety. 

The program’s keynote address will be delivered by Craig Slatin, TNEC director and professor in UMass Lowell’s Department of Community Health and Sustainability. 

A panel of experts on the topic will include:
  • Chip Hughes, director of the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS) Worker Education and Training Program;
  • Shannon Beard, industrial hygienist with NIEHS and the National Institute of Health (NIH);
  • Marcy Goldstein Gelb, executive director of the Massachusetts Coalition for Occupational Safety and Health (MassCOSH);
  • Jim McIntosh, environmental health safety technician of EMD Millipore.
Other speakers are scheduled to include Brian Mitchell, executive director of the New Hampshire Coalition for Occupational Safety and Health; UMass Lowell Executive Vice Chancellor Jacqueline Moloney; TNEC Project Director Paul Morse; and John Wooding, professor of political science and economic and social development of regions.
