The Graduate Program in Security Studies within the School of Criminology and Justice Studies at the University of Massachusetts Lowell offers an enriching educational experience for students pursuing a broad range of careers in the private and public sector including local, state and federal government agencies, defense contractors, research firms and advanced technology companies. Students are admitted into this program from a wide array of undergraduate and professional backgrounds.
Students can earn a 30-credit Master of Arts or a Master of Sciences degree, depending on the area of concentration they choose:
- Homeland Defense
- Industrial and Economic Security
- Critical Infrastructure Protection
- CBRNE Security
- International Security

The university also offers a 12-credit Graduate Certificate in Security Studies.
Students can fulfill all Master's degree or certificate requirements
by taking classes on-campus or online.
Also, a Bachelors-to-Masters degree option is available for qualified undergraduates currently enrolled a UMass Lowell.
This graduate program of study is affiliated with the Center for for Terrorism and Security Studies at UMass Lowell, which offers students opportunities to engage in several government-funded research projects and technology development initiatives with real world security relevance.
Students living in the New England region may be eligible for reduced tuition in the Proximity Regional Program.
