Cleaner Production and Pollution Prevention
The current way we are making our products and organizing our services is harming our environment and creating health problems. Every product has a life cycle, which includes raw material extraction, transport of materials to production sites, manufacturing, transport of the finished product, sales, service, and disposal or (ideally) recycling. In Clean Production, the goal is to create a cradle-to-cradle process with minimal negative impact and maximum positive impact on human health and the environment. Cleaner Production Processes conserve raw materials and energy, eliminate toxic materials and reduce the generation of wastes and emissions.
Learn to develop clean production methods and safe products. Take 15 credits of WE Core courses, 15 credits of CPPP concentration courses, and 6 credits of electives, and complete your Capstone Project, and you’ll have a Master’s Degree and skills to enhance any industry and innovate for a safer, healthier world.
To earn your ScD in Cleaner Production, you’ll take an additional 12 credits of dissertation research, plus 12-18 credits of courses in your major or minor field and complete a dissertation. Areas of research may include sustainable product design, integrated product policy, green chemistry, product take back, ecological taxes, materials policy, sustainability indicators in the workplace, environmental management systems, and integrating occupational health and pollution prevention.
Prerequisites: One semester of math and one semester of biology with a grade of C or better are required. Courses must be taken prior to matriculation in the WE program.
