University Celebrates Fall Festival

UMass Lowell will welcome students, alumni, parents and staff to celebrate the start of the fall semester with an event-pack Fall Festival Weekend Sept. 30 through Oct. 2. In addition to athletic events in five sports, reunions for University alumni and opportunities for the community to connect for the semester, several events will be highlighted during the weekend. 

Dream of Perfect Games – A Celebration of Sport
Sept. 30, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.
UMass Lowell Inn & Conference Center Grand Ballroom

Join the University community in honoring the long tradition of athletic triumphs at the first Dream of Perfect Games – A Celebration of Sport.  Honorees will include the 2011 Hall of Fame nominees, the Lifetime Achievement recipient and individuals who have worked to support UMass Lowell athletics. Tickets are available through the University website.

Rocking You Home – Girl Talk in Concert
Sept. 30, doors open at 8 p.m., show at 9 p.m.
Campus Recreation Center

Music lovers wanting to hear Simon & Garfunkel collaborate with Lil’ Jon should be sure to kick off the Fall Festival party with Girl Talk, a rising star in the digital mashup music world. DJ Gregg Gillis fuses samples across genres to create new music that flows unexpectedly well. Dance the night away or listen to identify as many sources as you can. Tickets are available at the UMass Lowell Tsongas Center or through the Tsongas Center website.

Saturday, Oct. 1, 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Students, faculty, staff and family members are welcome to celebrate the University community with a Wild West barbecue, live music and plenty of family fun. More than 80 student organizations will provide activities and ethnic foods to showcase what the campus has to offer to new and returning people. Get there early to hear the talented UMass Lowell Marching Band kick off the event.
 
A Day at the Races at the Textile Regatta
Sunday, Oct. 2, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
UMass Lowell Bellegarde Boathouse

Wrap up Fall Festival Weekend cheering on the UMass Lowell crew team at the 32nd Textile River Regatta. The 6K competition attracts college, high school and regional teams and solo rowers from across the region. The event is organized by the Merrimack River Rowing Association in coordination with the UMass Lowell and Lowell High School rowing programs. Spectators wanting a bird’s-eye view of the action can attend a special reception in the boathouse to support the UMass Lowell Fund and the UMass Lowell Crew team.  Stop by the crew team’s booth or meet Rowdy at the hospitality tent and tour the new boathouse between races.
