The Toxics Use Reduction Institute recently awarded nearly $62,000 in grants to fund research that helps faculty and partner companies find safer alternatives to toxic chemicals.
Margaret Sobkowicz-Kline, an assistant professor in the UMass Lowell plastics engineering department, won a $400,000 five-year grant from NSF to explore ways to improve plastics made from the inedible portions of sugarcane and to help encourage more women to become plastics engineers.
