Massachusetts Medical Device Development Center

Start Up Companies

The Massachusetts Medical Device Development Center (M2D2) is a lifeline for the state’s smaller medical device companies, offering inventors and executives easy, affordable, and coordinated access to world-class researchers and resources at the Lowell and Worcester campuses of the University of Massachusetts. It leverages the engineering, business and clinical strengths of the UMass campuses in Lowell and Worcester to provide fee-based services in the areas of business planning, product prototype development and clinical pathway assistance. Over the past several years M2D2 has connected with more than 100 startup medical device companies, providing significant assistance to more than 40 of them. These companies in turn have raised more than $4.2 million in external funding.

Some companies have graduated from M2D2, having secured significant external funding. NuOrtho Surgical is one success story. The company has obtained more than $2 million in venture capital and last September launched its first product, the Ceruleau probe, which is used during arthroscopic surgery to "rescue” cartilage.

The M2D2 companies listed are currently seeking early stage financing. If you are interested in any of the following companies and/or products, please contact us by e-mail or by phone at 978-934-3465.

While all the companies listed are affiliated with the M2D2, the companies listed under "M2D2 Innovation Hub Clients" are currently also utilizing our M2D2 Innovation Hub/Start-up facilities.
