Karolina Lula, Senior Research Associate
Karolina Lula is a Senior Research Associate at the Center for Terrorism and Security Studies. Her dissertation from Rutgers University unearths the determinants of counterterrorism cooperation. Lula proposes and tests with original data the conditions under which countries cooperate in starving terrorist groups of funding. Her most recent publication, Why Terrorists Overestimate the Odds of Victory, explicates the strategic mindset of militant group leaders via content analysis. At the center, her primary project is on terrorist disengagement under the leadership of John Horgan, Ph.D. She has given expert commentary to the media on terrorism and Mideast politics.
