Speaker Series Features Digital Credit Union CEO

When:  Tuesday, Feb. 16, 4 p.m.

What:  Jim Regan, a 1988 graduate of UMass Lowell and president and CEO of Digital Credit Union, with locations throughout Massachusetts, will discuss his career with students as part of the Manning Speaker Series. Named for Robert Manning, a UMass Lowell alum and chairman of the University of Massachusetts board of trustees, the series showcases alumni who have gained success in the financial world. Regan’s experience spans lending, finance, loan portfolio evaluations as well as due diligence and merger-related activities.

Community Invited to Events for Haiti Relief

When:  Wednesday, Feb. 17, 5:30 p.m.

What:  Students and the community will come together for a night of remembrance and reflection for Haiti relief by participating in a candlelight walk and vigil as well as a benefit concert. The walk will begin at 5:30 p.m. at the Middlesex Community College main building parking lot and end at the UMass Lowell Inn and Conference Center, where the benefit concert will begin at 6 p.m. The suggested donation is $5. The event is sponsored by UMass Lowell Student Activities and Leadership, UMass Lowell Office of Multicultural Affairs, and Middlesex Community College.

‘Music on the Merrimack’ Features Trumpet, Piano

When:  Thursday, Feb. 18, 7:30 p.m.

What:  As part of the “Music on the Merrimack” concert series presented through the UMass Lowell Center for Arts and Ideas, an evening of music will feature Joseph Foley on trumpet and Bonnie Anderson on piano. Master classes will be held the same day in Durgin Hall from 1 to 2:45 p.m. Concerts and classes are free and open to the public.

Graphic Design Alumni Exhibition Opens

When: Wednesday, Feb. 24, 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.

What: “Working Proof: Graphic Design Alumni Exhibition” features advertisements, logo design, books, greeting cards, illustrations and interactive media. Meet UMass Lowell Bachelor of Fine Arts design alumni at an artist reception on Wednesday, Feb. 24 at 3 p.m. The exhibit, curated and organized by Assoc. Prof. Karen Roehr, runs from Monday, Feb. 22 to Friday, March 12, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

UMass Lowell Hosts Science Quiz Competition

When:  Saturday, Feb. 27, 4 p.m.

What: For the first time, UMass Lowell is host of the Massachusetts Regional Science Bowl, a “Jeopardy”-style competition that quizzes high school students' knowledge in all areas of science. Sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy’s Office of Science, the academic competition is expected to attract 30 high-school teams from Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Vermont. The competition begins at 8:30 a.m. in rooms throughout Kitson Hall. The championship round will take place at 4 p.m. in Ball Hall. The winning team will participate in a national competition in Washington, D.C.
