Urban Village String Quartet Performs at Eliot Church

When:              Wednesday, Dec. 17, 6 p.m.

What:               UMass Lowell’s chamber group ߝ the Urban Village String Quartet ߝ will perform a free holiday concert called “Bach & More.” The resident string quartet was recently formed as a way to contribute to Lowell’s creative economy by students with the assistance of Kay George Roberts, UMass Lowell professor of music and music director of the Lowell-based New England Orchestra. For this performance, the quartet will be joined by renowned guest artists, including Cheryl Bishkoff, an oboist with the New England Orchestra, and UMass Lowell Adjunct Prof. Elliott Markow, a violinist. The venue, the Eliot Church, was chosen by organizers for its diverse congregation.

Work of Art, BFA Students Featured in Two Shows

When:             Exhibits are open Tuesday, Dec. 16, Wednesday, Dec. 17 and Thursday, Dec. 18 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Receptions are Thursday, Dec. 18, 5 to 7 p.m.

What:             Students from UMass Lowell’s Art Department and Bachelor of Fine Arts program will display artwork in exhibits at the University and Dugan galleries. The shows feature a variety of media, from painting, sculpture and photography to animation, Web site design and even advertising campaigns. Refreshments will be served at both receptions.

Exhibit Combines Art, Music and Computer Science

When:             Exhibit runs through Wednesday, Dec. 31. Hours are Wednesday through Sunday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. For holiday hours, call 978-YES-ARTS.

What:              Students in UMass Lowell’s new multi-disciplinary Tangible Interaction Design class ߝ a joint project of the Computer Science, Art, Music and Theater departments ߝ use computing, sensing, interaction and graphic design to create exhibits for the Revolving Museum’s latest show.

Graduate and Continuing Studies Hold Open House, Registration
 
When:  
           Wednesday, Jan. 14, 3 to 7:30 p.m.

What:             This event offers information about all aspects of graduate and Continuing Studies courses and programs at UMass Lowell, including those available on campus and online. For prospective and returning graduate students, advisers will be available to guide course selection. Those thinking of graduate school but yet to apply can sign up for as many as 12 credits of graduate study before enrolling in a program. Continuing Studies students will have a chance to learn about and register for programs, as well as attend one of three workshops: New Student Orientation, How to Take an Online Course and Project Management Information Session.
