WHEN: Wednesday, Oct. 24, 2007 10 a.m.
WHAT: UMass Lowell Chancellor Marty Meehan will announce a major new multi-building expansion plan and name the site chosen for the $100 million Emerging Technologies and Innovation Center.
The center is slated to house nano- and bio-manufacturing research and potentially other emerging technologies. It represents the first new academic facility on campus in more than 30 years and the beginning of an ambitious plan to grow and modernize the 112-year-old campus.
In addition to providing an advanced research facility for faculty and students, the center demonstrates UMass Lowell’s commitment to development that benefits the social and economic life of the region. The center is expected to help spawn entire new industries ߝ particularly through nanomanufacturing ߝ as well as move research and development companies toward full-scale production, especially in life sciences fields.
Legislators, University officials and community leaders will attend.
