Lowell Students and Teachers Improvise with a Master
When: Friday, March 24, 3:30 ߝ 5 p.m.
Where: Durgin Recital Hall, UML South, 35 Wilder St., Lowell
What: Renowned Latin and Western violinist, teacher and clinician
Jesus Eduardo Florido will perform a special concert in conjunction with improvisation workshops for Lowell music teachers and String Project students. Florido, who has studied under the likes of Itzhak Perlman, Pinchas Zuckerman and Isaac Stern, has performed extensively in his native Venezuela and in the U.S., where he currently lives. Florido plays the traditional violin and performs on a “Viper” ߝ a fretted, seven-stringed electric violin that can make any sound imaginable. The concert is sponsored by the Council for Diversity and Pluralism, the Department of Music, and the UMass Lowell String Project.

Attacking Biological Terrorism:
Speaker Discusses the Latest Biodefense Research
When: Monday, March 27, 3:30 ߝ 4:30 p.m.
Where: Ball Hall, Room 214, UML North, One University Ave., Lowell
What: Dr. Timothy Dasey of MIT’s Lincoln Laboratory will describe the important characteristics of biological weapons and the technical challenges in defending against them. He will also provide examples of the technologies and systems under development at the Lincoln Labs to defend against biological terrorism.
Dasey is an associate leader of the biodefense systems group at Lincoln labs. He manages several efforts for the U.S. Departments of Homeland Security and Defense.

All the Business That’s Fit to Print:
Business Journal Publisher to Speak
When: Tuesday, March 28, 1 p.m.
Where: Pasteur Hall, Room 301, UML North, One University Ave., Lowell
What: Michael Olivieri, a 1985 graduate of the University and publisher of the Boston Business Journal and Mass High Tech, will discuss the state of the local business climate. The two publications are owned and operated by American City Business Journals, which oversees local business journals in 42 cities in the United States. Olivieri has been with American City Business Journals for 12 years.
Olivieri’s is the third talk in the Senior Executive Forum series, which is sponsored by the Office of University Advancement and the College of Management.

Former Governor Paul Cellucci to Speak
When: Thursday, March 30, 11 a.m.
Where: O’Leary 222, UML South, 61 Wilders St., Lowell
What: Former Governor and Ambassador to Canada A. Paul Cellucci will speak to students in a state and local politics class and others from the UMass Lowell community.

Advertising Healthy Behavior:
Students Design and Produce Ads to Raise Awareness
When: Thursday, March 30, 1 p.m.
Where: McGauvran Hall, Basement, UML South, 71 Wilder St., Lowell
What: Students in an advertising design class partnered with the University Counseling Center to promote healthy behavior on campus, tackling three issues: healthy relationships, date rape and safe/responsible partying. The students will be presenting their final print advertisements ߝ in the forms of billboards, posters and other ads ߝ to their classmates from 1 to 3 p.m.
