New Campus Police Officers to Be Sworn In Wednesday

 

When:  Wednesday, Feb. 23 at 10 a.m.

 

Where:  Alumni Lounge, 84 University Ave., Lowell

 

What:

The University of Massachusetts Lowell Police Department will host a swearing-in ceremony for two new police officers. Officer Efthimios "Tim" Bousios of Lowell and Officer Joseph Borodawka of Tyngsboro will take the oath of office at the ceremony and become official members of the UML Police Department.

The public is welcome to attend.

Engineering Week Kicks Off at UML

 

When:  Through Friday, Feb 25

 

Where:  Locations across campus and at the Tsongas Arena.

 

What:

The Francis College of Engineering is offering a number of events as part of Engineering Week.

Events for E-Week include a Playstation Challenge at Fox Hall on Feb. 22 at 6:30 p.m., Jeopardy/Triathlon in Ball Hall on Feb. 23 at 2:30 p.m., a Dodge ball Tournament at the Campus Recreation Center on Feb. 24 at 3:30 p.m. and a Poker Tournament in Kitson Hall at 5 p.m. on Feb. 25.

Congressman Meehan to Present Iraq Exit Strategy

 

When:  Monday, Feb. 28 at noon

 

Where:  O'Leary Library, Room 222, UML South

 

What:

            Congressman Marty Meehan next week will present "Light at the End of the Tunnel" - his proposal for a U.S. exit strategy for Iraq - at the University of Massachusetts Lowell.

            Meehan, a member of the House Armed Services Committee, formulated his plan for a phased-in withdrawal of U.S. troops after a recent visit to Iraq.  The Fifth District congressman last month was featured in a forum on Iraq on ABC News "Nightline" with Ted Koppel.

            The session is sponsored by the UMass Lowell Department of Political Science, Department of Sociology, and Peace and Conflict Studies Institute.

            The town hall type meeting, which is open to the public, will include a presentation by Meehan followed by a question-and-answer session.

Gallery Exhibit Opens in March

 

When:  March 2 to April 6 (Slide lecture March 2 at 3 p.m.; reception March 2 from 3 to 5 p.m.)

 

Where:  University Gallery, McGauvran Student Center, UML South

(Lecture and reception are in O'Leary 222.)

 

What: 

 "One Cycle of my Journey," an exhibition of black-and-white photographs by Abigail Cohen (1973-2000), will be featured next month at the University Gallery.  The work, which stands as a lasting record of the vision of a sensitive artist in her twenties, is both visually and emotionally mysterious. 

Renowned New York portrait photographer Joyce Tenneson will present a slide lecture at the March 2 reception.

UML Presents a Tribute to Women in Music

 

When: Thursday, March 3 at 7:30 p.m.

 

Where:  Durgin Concert Hall, 35 Wilder St., Lowell

 

What: 

Female musicians and artists of UMass Lowell will perform memorable pieces by famous female musicians, past and present.  During intermission, there will be an art show in the lobby. 

The sponsors, Music and Entertainment Industry Students Association of UMass Lowell, will donate half the show's proceeds to Girl's Inc. of Greater Lowell. 

Doors open at 7pm.  A suggested donation of $5 per person can be paid at the door.
